Outside Broadcasts

Outside broadcasts are an important part of Radio General’s programming. In 2014 we celebrated 40 years of producing Outside Broadcasts. At first we relied on a network of ‘private wires’ around the town. These were located at; Wilderspool Stadium, Town Hall Lawn, Parr Hall, Golden Square, Victoria Park and the Market forecourt.

We then purchased equipment which could be used on normal telephone lines, enabling us to replace the private wires with new or existing telephone lines. This allowed us to increase the number of locations from which we broadcast.

Locations used in recent years are: Town Hall Lawn, Parr Hall, Warrington market and the Information Centre in the market, Halliwell Jones Stadium, Halton Stadium, Golden Square, Walton Hall Gardens, Hatters Row, Birchwood Forest Park, Anderton Boat Lift, Ellesmere Port Boat Museum, Willowpool Garden Centre, Birchwood Centre, Spectrum Arena, Information Centre (Sankey St.)  Information Centre (Poll Tax House),
Barley Mow, Lymm United Reform Church, Lymm Youth Club and Victoria Park.

In 2005 we received a Lottery grant and were able to purchase a set of Comrex Matrix units. These enable us to broadcast using mobile phone technology thus expanding our area of coverage greatly. We have expanded our broadcast locations to include: Preston Brook – (the National Boat Rally 2005), Daresbury – (Warrington Horse Show), Lymm – (Lymm Dickensian Day), Risley Moss – (Green Safari Day), Appleton Thorn – (Bawming  the Thorn) and Thelwall – (Thelwall Rose Queen Procession).

It is also possible to broadcast live from locations with internet facilities.

Reports from events held on a Sunday will be included in the Sunday Sport show.

Some concerts held at the Parr Hall are broadcast live back to the hospital.

For upcoming live Outside Broadcasts please see the Diary of Events page.
